You give them money, they give you a place to live. A ll doesn't get money for nothing and you don't get to live in their property for nothing. If they don't refund you for the unused rental days, then take them to court.

If the ll desired to only have a tenant pay for a full months rent, not a day less, then that is what they should have put on the lease and have the move out be on the very last day of the month. The day your lease ends, you are no longer obligated to pay, so you owe them nothing at that point. But you may still have to pay the full months rent and wait to be refunded for the days after your agreed upon move out date.
