I left the town I go to school in for the summer and won't be back until August (when I need a place). I didn't know what my living situation will be like so I wasn't able to get an apartment while I was still in town. I'm thinking of living alone this year due to some terrible roommate issues last year.
I am a little paranoid about finding an apartment online. I think most people go through apartment complexes to be safe but they are quite pricey. I found this place that fits the bill and they told me if I'm willing to pay a little more per month, they can make my lease to be 9 months. That works for me but when I looked up their company, I found that it's a LLC in the state I go to school in. They don't have a regular website like other leasing companies so I'm guessing they're probably small/private or it's just an older couple doing some real estate. That's fine to me, but since I can't be in the area to view the place, I'm a little paranoid about it all. What would you recommend for my situation?

The Golden Rule is never, ever rent a place sight unseen. Never. Find a short stay motel/hotel where you can stay for a week or so until you find a place - or a month's share. But don't take anywhere that you haven't seen.
