Okay, I'm moving there tomorrow. One call to Goodwill to dump the city wardrobe and substitute a reasonable all weather car and keep the books and steel self for outdoor living, and we're done.

I'm serious. I had no idea this was $$ doable.

Are we talking way out there rural living with the big adjustment, or a community close by?

Seriously.

$1,002 for a 2-bedroom apartment here in Sherman Oaks (San Fernando Valley), CA. I'm grateful to have rent control. Covered parking only, no elevator, no central air conditioning or heat, but the apartment complex has a pool. New tenants are paying $1,200 and up!

Ahhh I'm totally missing my $1000 house payment in New Mexico! Here in Northern Virginia, we pay $3100 a month not including HOA fees (gosh, I really don't want to think about it!) 3800 sq ft, 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths. Plan on being here 20 years though!

My rent last year was $1094 for POS 1bd/1ba in the "ghetto" in NOVA. The only good thing about it was it was on the large size...almost 900 sqft
My mortgage now is $1300 for a 3bd/4ba 2400 sq ft new townhouse in NOVA, plus $100 for HOA

I just left that same set up (1 bedroom with a den) water not included (hey, maybe you're in my old Maryland apartment ) and now pay $897 for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom brand new twice as big apartment in a different state. My rent in Maryland went up $50 every year. I just signed my new lease in TN and my rent will go up $10 for a 14 month lease.

I pay $1600 per month rent for a 2-bedroom in Northern Virginia (Tyson's Corner/Fairfax County) utilities not included. A friend and I were talking earlier about how we used to rent a 1-bedroom apartment near the University of Kentucky campus for around $250 in the 1980's.
