My current mortgage note runs about $535 monthly (including taxes and insurance) for a 1283 sq ft 3bedroom/2 bath home on two acres. No annoying HOA's to deal with. I love the peace and quiet where it is, and i only have two neighbors that are not that close to me, which I like. And I am pretty anti-development so I am glad I am in an area where I wont have to worry about seeing new stuff going up every 5 minutes.

I rent by choice. I love it. (Minneapolis, MN) I make sure my rent is no more than 25% of my take home pay. This way I can live on one paycheck a month and am throwing the rest of my income at my debt in order to be debt free by the end of the year. No more credit cards or student loans.... every again.

Right now, our rent is just under $1,000/month for a 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 car garage home in the suburbs with a medium-sized rock yard (Arizona). Looking to move to Washington and pay about $1,600 for a 2 bed, 2 bath tri-level apartment with a 2 car garage. Ouch.
