Please keep in mind I live in a low income housing. Not group 8.
I was asked to leave my apartment one week while they remodeled. All they provided was a small storage unit to put my stuff away.
One week later the apartment was not ready. It hows now been two weeks and we have asked the reasons why it was not completed. Leasing office has stated that the parts such as cabinets that were ordered did not come in.
We are now going into week three and the apartment is still not ready. I had made arrangements to be at a friends house for one week and now it has been longer than that.
I asked them about lowering my rent for that one month since I haven't really been there much, they said they didn't think they could do that?
Is this ok for them to do? Do I have a good case against them? I am currently battling cancer and start my chemotherapy in a couple of days and I would of liked to be home in a comfortable setting.
If they ask you to leave for any remodeling or pest treatment or any other reason they are supposed to pay for a place for you to stay. You certainly should at the very least not have to pay rent for the time you were put out of the home.
HUD here requires the tenants to have Renters Insurance. Tho I do know 1 apt complex that rented a motel for huge remodel. they do 1 building at a time & the tenants moved into the hotel. Another went thru & Evicted the borderline tenants or just didn't bother to renew. Then they moved the tenants out of the building they were going to work on into the empties. I remember 2 different tenants telling me they been playing musical apts. The 1 had a big family not many apt for big families the other was single older gentleman.... now he was offered to be moved else where but Refused.
