What is the best way to find a rental? I've seen "FOR RENT" signs, sections in the newspaper, large companies that own many buildings that encourage you to call, internet website that have rental listings, etc.

Depends on where you are. Bigger cities have craiglist craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums, and smaller cities have the paper.

Best idea is to look for a place that a) the place fits you, and b) the landlord fits you.
