When we were renting a SFH, it was in our lease that we had to notify our landlord if and when we were ever going to be away from the house for 7 consecutive days at a time. We were on friendly terms with our landlord, so it was really as simple as me sending him an email a week or two before and letting him know the dates.
NoMoreSnowForMe has all the great reasons why it's good to do this, even if not in the terms of your lease - especially for a month, I think it's just smart to let them know ahead of time.
You can tell them that you will be away for those dates. Also, if you pay your utilities through your landlord, they should know so they don't bill you for utilities you aren't using. Be sure to have a friend or relative pick up your mail so it doesn't overflow. Don't advertise to your neighbors how long you'll be away. Have a timer on for your living room light so it looks like someone is home. Being away that long can attracted unwanted people like burglars.
