Who would live their bedroom window open while sleeping at night if there is easy public access to walk up to the window. That's just creepy!

Who in their right mind would leave their curtains/blinds/window coverings or even their windows or doors open/unlocked on the first floor while they are sleeping? That should just be common sense not to do that. That is exactly the situation that a weirdo/thief/predator would seek out otherwise most times they would just move on. You decrease your chances 10 fold just by taking extra precautionary measures. These idiots don't discriminate so it doesn't matter where you live. You could be in the nicest most expensive areas and if you are vulnerable then you are only setting yourself up for them to take advantage.

I took the advice of some of the posts and went ahead and signed the papers today. I figured I would be ok. Something came up though. this apartment has stinkbugs. I signed the lease, and she mentioned them after signing. I just assumed they were hanging out at the apartments (like on the gates) and didn't get inside. we went over and did the tour, and they were inside. now the door was open for a while (they were working outside), so I don't know if they got in that way, or slipped through the doors. after we did the walk through, I signed the papers saying everything was okay. which was wrong on my part. I should have told her I wanted to pass, the reason I didn't is because I have anxiety issues, so saying no like that is difficult me, I fear some sort of retaliation if I were to do so. she told me she promises it won't be an issue. can I do anything since they didn't mention they would be INSIDE while I was signing the lease, or am I stuck now. I'm supposed to pay some stuff today (to cover from now till the end of the month). i'm not sure if that matters..

You signed, now your are in a contract and your rights and responsibilities are within the four corners of that contract. I sympathize with the anxiety issues (and even guessed at that from the previous posts) but that issue is YOUR issue, and one that needs to be addressed with a physician. The world has bugs in it. They sometimes co-exist in spaces we would prefer them not to. I suggest you pull out the contract you signed and see who is responsible for pest control.

I think you are getting yourself wound up about problems that just arent there. Someone peeping in windows 6 months ago? So close your blinds? A few stink bugs? Squish them.

yes..i know (especially regarding the anxiety stuff). i understand what you mean.

i checked with her regarding pest control. it sounds like they checked with a company (it was some higher up company, like the city or something), and nothing could be done. it sounds like there is no remedy for it (no sprays, etc)

Safety is about habits, as much as places.
and just to add to the above, consider that this person was spotted, reported, police contacted, and an arrest made! That says a lot about the neighborhood and response. Imagine moving into a place where this happens all the time but nobody bothers to report it to the police.

You should make your complaint known ASAP. Landlord should hire an extermination service ASAP. There is no excuse in the world that the garden couldn't be treated within the next 1-2 days.

Squash the ones that get in.

Be thankful they are not bedbugs.
