I live in an apartment with 4 people. Another guy and I both have the singles, we signed the lease without seeing the apartment we agreed on both paying an equal amount. I got to the apartment and set up my room. Since my room is significantly larger, I offered to switch halfway though the lease. It is now halfway through the lease and he asked if I would pay a little more in rent for the rest of the lease rather than switching. Not wanting to pay just a little bit more, should I still switch rooms? Nothing has been mentioned since we moved in until now.

Housemating relationships can be tougher than dating relationships

That's called "moving the goal posts"

Now that he has asked to change the deal... you can too.
The choice is to either accept his offer or to stay put with things as they are.
I'd stay put

Well, I would offer to pay $10/month more or just do the switch.

I'd say, "sorry, no" and at that point, I would rescind the offer to switch rooms. You have a lease; that was the room you were given and the rent you were asked to pay.

The roommate tried it and it didn't work. He'll move on to another idea.

By the way, in future, if you are going to have roommates, keep your door shut and do not compare room sizes, or salaries, or rent, or girlfriend's cooking ability, or anything else that might lead to jealousy. It's hard enough to live with roommates without pointing out that you are receiving a better deal or have a better life.
