Open kitchen shelves means you were too cheap to pay for glass front cabinet doors. Same effect, no dust.
if you ever have watched tv shows like Little House on the Prairie, they have those kind of open shelves and they look cute!
But then again, some of the House Hunter tv shows show people viewing a home and they see beautiful white cabinets and appliances and they say they want to tear it down because its so out of date. Maybe some people just don't like beautiful things as others think its beautiful.. so it varies by our personal taste.
I do like the glass front windows too on kitchen cabinets. And colorful melmac dishes behind them

Um... You know of course that LHOTP was set in an era perhaps a century ago +/-? Yes of course you do.
Incidentally, I am pretty sure the outside scenes were shot in Simi Valley, in the hills to the north. Simi Valley is located in eastern Ventura County adjacent to and west of L.A. County's San Fernando Valley.
My kitchen ain't great (probably builder quality cabinets, I'm no expert) but I'm glad I can't see what's inside. I know where stuff is, and I have quite enough clutter on my kitchen counter.
Yeah, open kitchen cupboards equal work to me lol. I guess if I could pay someone to keep them looking all pretty and clean, I might like them.
But, who has a spice shelf that looks all nice and pretty? That shelf is mayhem in my house, with boxes of spices in this and that type of packaging, and boxes of baking powder and corn starch and bottles of soy sauce and who knows what. There's no way that's every going to be a stunning work of art worthy of an open cupboard or glass doors. What do those people do with that kind of stuff? Or random cans of soup and boxes of pasta, on and on?
Ugh, it just looks like a mess! Like a kitchen cupboard door left open. Just looks messy. And if you have open kitchen cupboards, then you need to worry about your stuff looking pretty, and you have to keep it clean and dusted. Just ugh.
I know, but say that you have a really small *second bedroom* in an apartment....putting the dresser in the closet and removing doors is the way to go...more space to walk around.
We did paint the walls because they were that horrible sterile white, but we painted them soft, pale colors. Just not that harsh white. We put in a a lawn, we stain the deck ourselves, we do repairs. Of course we are not millennials. We are retired former home owners. I think many millennials are just spoiled.
What does your lease say about performing repairs? All of mine have expressly prohibited the tenant from making repairs, performing maintenance or changing anything, even for the better in the tenant's opinion.
A sensible landlord would be happy to have you. I've learned there is very little sensibility in the landlord tenant relationship.
