You can't clean after you painted... Try painting again. Like jaredC said, it's probably a fading issue. Certain paints work better thab others. Try a higer quality paint.
6 months isn't enough time for fading - more likely cooking (deep fryer used a lot?) or perhaps a natural-gas fireplace being used with the vent closed, or obviously smoking..
It's worth a shot to try a weak solution of pine-sol or tsp.
Agreed. Unless it is an area that gets direct sunlight for long periods of the day (not just ambient light, but direct sunlight), 6 months isn't nearly long enough for fading. I've got pictures that have been on my wall for more than a decade, and there is no noticeable difference in wall color, because that wall never gets direct sunlight.
Rather than fading, I would assume the non-covered parts are dirty, as others said from cooking or smoking.
Cleaning depends on what sheen of paint you used. Flat, you probably can't do anything. Semigloss, you probably can wash that off. I'd start with a magic eraser, and if that doesn't work, then maybe some tsp.
Now, if the walls weren't washed before painting 6 months ago, this might not be washable, because grease and smoke can come back through the paint over time. If that is the case, you may have to use some sort of sealant on the walls, like Killz, and then repaint over that.
That is why I never use flat paint. Lowest grade I use is semi-gloss.
