Hello All -

I rent and it includes a parking space in the garage. I had some items I kept at my space - a snow shovel, outdoor chair, cooler etc. I saw some people in there cleaning the garage yesterday when I left for work and said hello.

I come home - all my items are gone. I found some in the trash bin and others on a different level of the garage, essentially my items are now theirs and stored with the complex's possessions.

At no time was i given notice I had to remove these items. They've been there awhile, as well as other neighbors with items that were also removed. I do not know if they received notice.

I not only didnt receive notice they didnt say a word when I saw them before they threw out my items.

I also consider that they kept the useful stuff for their own as stealing.

I have no idea how to approach this. It was dark when I got home last night and I dug around the dumpster in my work clothes and threw my back out. If I had received notice and a dealine I would have heeded. I dont think that request would have been out of line but how they handled it was.

I'll take suggestions and whatnot. Thank you for reading.

Meaning they can remove my items at any time without notice? I'm pretty sure it doesnt say that.

Talk to them and find out what's going on. Consider putting in a police report for the theft. There really is not enough info to really go off of here. Sounds like they did something they shouldn't have, maybe.

Meaning the lease may say they are not responsible for items stored in the garage, in which case you would have little to argue with them over. It's not right, but if it's there and you agreed to it, then you agreed to it.

Start with the assumption of error and not malice.

You've found most of your things and you'll secure them more assertively now.
Ask the owner who was in there and what they did with the rest.

Does your lease provide you with a garage or simply a parking space in the garage?

This would be my question as well. The lease may prevent storage of anything but a car, bicycle, or motorcycle in the garage outside of specific storage areas. I know many garages have separate storage areas for personal items that are rented in addition to a parking spot. I know in my complex, the garage is NOT for storage items and you have to rent a storage unit if you want to store personal items. The storage units are extremely cheap- I think only $10-15 a month as opposed to $70-80 for garage parking. There is also a separate storage area for bicycles that is included and people just have to get a sticker to ensure they are not removed.

Could be as simple as "What part of PARKING space didn't you understand."

So you got back the things you saw, right?....what do you man your items are now there's? If you see where they are, why can't you go and get them. Put them in your house this time.
