Hello everyone,

I live in a duplex apartment community and would like legal as well as guidance on how to remove or get the neighbors dealt with- it's not the roosters fault. Now this rooster in my opinion is treated inhumanely - One its always in a cage and never roaming freely, two its covered in a black trash bag all day while being inside the cage Hot/Cold temperatures and three its always crowing at odd hours throughout the day. I've lost hours of sleep because of it. Now the cage is about 4 feet away from my bedroom window. Is that legal?

I've verbally complained to my neighbor as well as landlord and just today emailed our property management as well as filled a noise complaint to our local animal shelter.

What laws are there for this? and how do we resolve this? i live in EAST LA Area

Laws vary locally. Google laws for your area.

There are usually rules for keeping what is usually categorized as livestock. In my city chickens have to be 20 feet from residential structures plus there are noise ordinances that come into play.

You can call animal control if you think it's being treated inhumanely.

Also contact your city and county code departments and see if there is a violation that the owner can be cited for.

That reminds me. What's the difference between a rooster and a porn star?

The rooster says "cockadoodledoo."

The porn star says "_______________"

(I'm sure you can all figure it out.)

Nothing you can do IF they are claiming the rooster as ESA... Not long ago the airlines HAD to allow a Rooster on board.

I start by contacting Animal Control.... Take pic of the cage with rooster in it. Surely they can get them for Cruelty.

Well, I just looked it up, and roosters are legal in East LA, although the number is limited. So you're going to have to call animal control to report the inhumane conditions in which it is being kept. Also, you can notify your LL that unless they make the other tenant get rid of the rooster, you are going to have to break your lease because it is interfering with your right to "quiet enjoyment" of your unit.

Or you could just solve your own problem, if you know what I mean.

Some ordinances require a larger setback from other neighbors if a person owns a rooster. Regardless, tehj LL should make the tenant get rid of it.
