The landlord is left with a signed lease and therefore both parties are liable no matter what happens.

And again, having different screening requirements based on marital status is discrimination.

Serious question; what's the difference to a landlord? If someone walks away from the marriage and the lease what options is the landlord presented with that improves his or her situation? I understand that there can be spousal support ordered but by the time that gets sorted out the landlord is already out months of rent.

No, because the word he used where you put those three dots was "marriage." You initially said that if a BF/GF are moving in together each needs to afford the entire rent individually but not if it's husband/wife. That poster basically said that one can walk away from either relationship. But since that poster said "marriage," it would seem there would be missing a beat.
