I have the opportunity to upgrade my rental home in a 55+ community. It currently has 1-1/2 baths with a tub/shower combination. Current tenants have purchased a home (yay for them!) and I could take the opportunity to remove the tub and install a tiled shower. Opinions? Remember, no children in this home (unless grandkids visiting) and most residents are in the 65+ range. How many people would rather have just a shower and how many want a tub? Personally I want a tub, but, that's just me.

Just musing while I have nothing else to do at the moment.

I would much prefer a shower over a tub. Much cleaner and easier to get in and out. Having one of those shower heads on a flexible loop would be nice too. That way you can reach everywhere plus place the spray against sore muscles for an added bonus.

However, if you have big bucks, a walk in tub is fabulous. I used one in another country on a visit and it was great.

A tub and shower combination is best. Otherwise you are limited in your rental prospect and your marketing options when it comes time to sell.

Most residential properties I've seen that are focused on the aging in place community has walk in showers and may have a tub as well, butt hey all have a walk in shower. I've not seen any aging in place units with only a step over tub type unit with no walk in shower separately. They may also be setup as barrier free. They do all incorporate code appropriate handicap bars and such.

I like the shower with some sort of seat built into it. That gives the best of both worlds (ease of access but comfort of not having to stand if you don't want to).

That's a thought. I'd have to go with a regular walk-in tub and tile, though, as there's a window in the current set-up. Thanks for the idea.

I personally prefer a stall shower because it's harder to fall in a shower than a tub.

When I was younger, I loved taking baths, but, not so much anymore even if I were to do so, I'd shower off after. The idea of sitting in my own dirt doesn't appeal to me. When we wash dirty items, we always rinse them off. So a shower for me. Plus with my knees, I might end up getting stuck any given day. Just not a fan at all of tub bathing these days.
