State is Florida.

Like many people, my company has sent me and many of my coworkers home to work remotely during the pandemic. I've been doing this since late April with no issue. Yesterday I received a notice from my landlord stating that my residence my only be used for residential purposes and I am to discontinue my remote work.

Is this legal? My business is not allowing us to return to the office yet so I have no other option but to work from home!

I'm pretty sure your landlord will be unable to evict you due to the restrictions on evictions. If you are just telecommuting from home, your landlord has pretty zero basis to evict you. It's your home as long as you're not running a business from it and using it as your business address, it would be awfully hard for a landlord to claim any type of harm from your activity.

Typical office work your landlord has basically no say in the matter. If you have people coming and going all day then you have a problem.

If its just you working on a computer then he has no say. If you have people coming to house to conduct business, then either quit doing that, or be evicted.

Do you have a written lease of a specific duration, with time left on it? If so, when does it expire?

Or are you on a month to month rental agreement of no particular duration?

That's an important question because, on a month to month, the landlord can terminate your tenancy for any reason or no reason.

With a lease it would have to be for cause and you would certainly have a defense against eviction for telecommuting.

If you're working on a computer and/or telephone from home, why is your landlord aware that you're working from home? It simply doesn't add up unless he or she is constantly monitoring your comings and goings.

One would think that the landlord would be happy to have no interruptions in the rent payments.

Seems must be a reason you dont state what your job is.
Are you rebuilding car engines in the living room? Do you raise live stock? etc...
Does not make a difference if you had the same job before. Those things would not be allowed.
