She should. Has to really. Filing isn't getting ... even before the COVID mess.

Answer is a little different if she is on government assistance or property happens to have a federally back mortgage.

But why not have her move. What would you do if your employers could not pay you because of covid 19. Would you continue to work for free. Or would you get another job or make other arrangements.

Food is more of an essential service for people to survive. Based on the same logic. Why dont they let customers shop and allow then to pay next year.

Whether the eviction is delayed or not, she will still end up with an eviction on her civil record, where it stays forever. I suggest that you recommend to her that she make arrangements with her landlord and move out since she can't pay the rent.

I can understand not being able to pay rent, but she needs to move out immediately. She should notify her landlord in writing, remove all her possessions, give him back the key, and leave. That way, when she gets back on her feet financially, she'll be able to rent again. Whether she moves in with her parents, relatives, friends, a shelter, or lives in her car, if she LEAVES without an eviction, she'll be able to rent again. If she's evicted, she won't.

Friend should offer to move out willing if the landlord will drop the eviction. Ever wonder why people live in Motels, it cost more than an apartment.

Its because they were evicted, the worse thing you can have on your credit and nobody will rent to them after. If they cannot pay the rent its going to get them today or tomorrow, just whatever they do not let an eviction on the record. That should be goal #1.
