Apartment living sucks.
We can't handle the winters here anymore! 15 below zero is too much for us! We refuse to live in a mobile home. Not us at all.

And, that $90K is both her job and her full SS. She gets no benefits at all! No paid holidays, vacations, sick time and her medical is Medicare A/B.

And, to top that, an older guy, where we live, told us that there is a 3 year waiting list to get into any 55+ community here. He lives here with his daughter and SIL. Very few 55+ communities here. This city is only 176K people and most of them are of the Working Class.
I'm talking about a 55+ Active Adult community. There is no waiting list and many people have firearms.

I guess you didn't look at my link.

Well, this thread tells it all and I think I'm done with it. Most of you don't understand, or perhaps don't want to understand, our situation and complaining............which is ok. But, if any of you would talk to Seniors that live in regular apartments, they would tell you the same (the title of this thread).

There are those, young-old-older, that can't afford certain things, like a descent house instead of apartment living. We had a house back in 2004, but it cost so much for upkeep and we still had to encounter noise, as in neighbors dogs barking at 2AM and Woods Owls hooting at 2AM as well. So, just because someone buys a house, unless the house is in numerous acres, there will be annoying noise as well. And, btw, the neighbors dogs weren't put in the garage at night, like the husband told his wife to do. He worked a nightshift in Security for the school district.

So, thanks everyone for you comments/replies, but I've had enough.

And, I guess you didn't see my reply that stated she is working a TEMPORARY job! She could lose it next month! That 90K isn't permanent! After the job ends, we will be back at living off of SS and savings again.

It's old, but looks pretty nice. $88,000 asking.

About twice the price.

If you'll look around the country you can find less expensive places to live where you can stop sharing wallls with neighbors, but you'll have to re-examine your premises. "Mobile home just isn't us"? Well, you may want to reconsider that. "Don't want to live in somewhere in Oklahoma"? Well, would you rather listen to Subwoofer Sammy all day and all night?

If what you're looking for is an inexpensive apartment complex where people are quiet and respectful of others, good luck, you're looking for a needle in a haystack. How long do you want to struggle against the facts, while being miserable?

I understand that. I also think you should realize that in many places you could buy for much less than renting.

Bottom Line is.........we have to live in an apartment complex, but (note the "but") we have lived in a much quieter complex than we do now. However, the apartment we lived in was a "bungalow" 1-story type that was connected to the end of the apartment building. There were only four of these in the complex. Nobody lived above us, but still had noise problems from neighbors in the building next to us. With that one, had enough of living in northeastern Florida (10 1/2 years) and left. Not really knowing how much the Front Range of Colorado had changed/grown.

Either a part of Arizona or southern Nevada is where we'll end up.

Can't buy without a job and then there is also the Down Payment. And, sooner or later we'll have to get another vehicle or have a new engine put into ours.

Some folks just have to rent! No other way to look at it.

If you have to rent, you have to rent. And what you’re experiencing is just part of renting. You can get great neighbors or you can get the other kind. There is no solution for that or for hearing owls. Hooters gonna hoot.
