i am in a new state looking for housing,as i am partially disabled,my choices are few and far between.
i need to chose between a house with oil heat/hot water(this is a cold area)and a landlord that makes me feel uncomfortable(don't know why)
and a nice clean gas heated home with every room full of furniture and expensive decor(including electronics,linens,etc)----the person that showed me the home said that the previous tenant did not want anything from the house??---odd thing here is that 2 other homes next to it are abandoned with the furniture and decor still in them!
in your opinion which one sounds less risky or should i keep looking?

If your paying the utilities I'd ask to see the monthly bill. Not being disabled but knowing numerous people who are, I'd think things like close proximity to hospitals, doctor office, transit, stores and life activities would be more of a deciding factor. I wouldnt be swayed by the fancy furniture.........i'd rather have convienence and low rent............you might also want to find out where the landlords are located.........if close by they may be around all the time!
If you aren't in that big of a hurry I'd keep looking. Do you have any relatives there that you can stay with until you find a place that really will fit your needs? Good Luck and keep us posted.
I'd check out the landlord, and he will check out you. It's a mutual thing, but there's something wrong where a tenant left his stuff. Usually, they take everything that's not bolted down. Check with the utilities company and see if you can locate the last tenant and call him. Ask the police about the area. They can't say anything about a specific place, but can say about the area or the landlord if there's a problem. You didn't say how disabled you are, but you may have some benefits which could make your search easier for you. Go to the local bar, church, or park, and watch the crowd to see what kind of a neighborhood this is.

thank you for some great tips----i have a mobility disability-----i found out that the owner is still in the area--but decided against the house as the other two homes on either side are also abandoned with the decor and belongings still inside---too bizarre for me!
