I have a question, perhaps someone can help me with this.

I entered into a one year lease for an apartment in Connecticut a couple of months before I got married. The lease was scheduled to expire the last day of June in 2009. My wife's employer, a hospital, compensates her for rent and after we were married and she moved in our rent was covered by her employer. That's the good news.

When my lease was up and I gave proper and timely written notice the landlord informed me that there was a new lease on the apartment that was entered into between my wife, the hospital and the landlord when the hospital was to begin paying the rent. To get out of this new lease, which was scheduled to end the last day of October 2009 they plan to charge me a $1,050.

My questions are these: My lease was cancelled/modified without my knowledge. Is this legal?

My name is not on the new lease but they transferred my deposits to the new lease. Is this legal?

Am I screwed because my wife, who tends not to read anything she signs, entered into the lease with the hospital and did I marry the lease with the woman?

When the lease was modified, should the original deposits have been returned and new deposits from the new leaseholders been issued?

Thanks for the help.

No. They can't end your lease, your wifes name can be added to the
original lease, so transfering the SD to to her new lease was illegal as well.

Wow, someone didn't know what they were doing.
