Talk to an attorney in NY.

The items are worthless, I really want her to take the junk out so we can clean up our place and make the bad memories disappear.

but that's even hard when we are told to save the stuff for 1 year.

The chances of getting any money from the judgement ($8,000) is probably 5%. Looking at her history, I doubt she will have any money in the bank, in the future. She had her first baby at age 14. She basically ruined her own life. She is probably worse than home-less. Really feel bad for her kids.

We are going to throw everything we can into the basement for now. The rest that's not on paper will be thrown out. I think that's our best option.

I told my parents that anyone can make a hard copy of the credit report in 10 minutes using photoshop, they need her SS# and look up her credit history on the internet.

Well, they learned their lesson. I told her to always consult with me on any tenants in the future.

GLad they're rid of them. I just dont think your parents should have to be their personal storage unit for so long but if it has to be, it has to be.

Right now there are so much damage (wall, appliances, carpets, bathrooms) etc. Sad to even look at it.
You have your insurance agent give you a value for insurance purposes just like if was your nice stuff

It sounds like it just junk so I would get pictures with a itemized list for my files (just in case)and take it to the dump and move on to get another tenant.

They have nothing to gain by coming back for the stuff they will not be back

Good Luck
