what about elevator operators, they abuse elevators!!

go back to mid may on the renting boards you'll see we had some good times joking around about "abuse of the elevator" and busting on the landlord(the wife half)

everytime she runs into me in the elevator or near it which is not very often thank God, she says something to me that is either self righteous, narrow minded or vaguely accusatory. i don't think she actually thinks i'm a bad person(as far as i know i'm OK) but rather she just can't place me because i'm 47 and not married

anyway, thursdays i am running back & forth up and down because that is wash night, then i forget my change for the machines, then i have to check the oil in my car because it's old and burns oil, then i have to take down the trash, then i ride my bike for exercise or go out with the walkman on or go to the deli to pick up food, i am active and busy, but she tells me "I see you going up and down in elevator, don't worry i don't just watch you i watch everybody, that is abuse of the elevator if you are going to do that take the stairs or move to the basement". then perversely with a smile she leaves. WEIRD!!! and hubby is totally different, calls me a "nice guy", lent me his hand truck when i moved in, who knows maybe this is a diversion for him he gets to meet new tenants and takes his focus away from "the pit bull"

from what i hear supposedly we have an ex con living in the basement who was (at least that's what a neighbor told me) a sex offender for rape. if that's true, maybe she thinks i belong there since i'm 47 and not married. who knows! you know, all us unmarried guys who were never married are all sexually and emotionally maladjusted!! but yet we manage to have jobs that will pay the rent ON TIME!

but now she is my best friend i believe because my neighbor circulated a petition around the bldg protesting lack of sufficient water pressure and hot water. my neighbor tried to get me to sign it but refused because i don't have a pressure problem nor a lack of hot water. i think the landlord saw the petition and noticed i did not sign it so she's probably Ok with me now

go figure

Good for you rl, maybe she'll change her mind about "all the emotionally maladjusted unmarried men," this could be a real turning point in your relationship with the LL, 1 free elevator ride for you.

Default it's one thing

to have to deal with pit bulls in NY City as your neighbors, but when it's your landlord...???!!!

The pit bulls and the landlord get unlimited rides in the elevator, why can't I?!

Default I googled

my address and a few minor violations came up on my building, like failure to provide a courtyard light back in 1986 and an elevator light violation and something else about the elevator. maybe she's trying to build up a case that a tenant overuses the elevator! could you imagine how that would fly in court? she'd bring in to court evidence from the video camera of me using the elevator 5 times in an hour, trying to convince the judge i am abusing the elevator! "look, he's wearing out the door hinges!" she'd yell. and the judge would respond "why don't you just use some 3 in one oil to oil the hinges". this could be a movie called "the tenant who abused the elevator".

Not that this is an excuse for her but maybe the elevator is old and she's afraid that if it gets used too much they will have to pay for maintenance or repairs.

Like I said, no excuse but maybe that's just something she obsesses over and you get to feel the brunt of her complaints because she thinks you use it too often.

Obviously she doesn't have much going on in her life if she sits around all day watching who is using the elevator. Just a bored old lady is my guess.

Default lynnepat

you're absolutely right. in fact i actually did what she suggested and took the stairs when i can but i think since i got my bike and ride it often she sees how serious I am about it and sees me taking the bike in/out of the elevator every day. in fact i now lock it up outside the apt during the day so she doesn't see me lugging it up/down too often

according to public records she's still a "young lady"--she's only 57 but hub is 72(there's a site that actually tells how old people with listed phone numbers and relatives are). they are a big family with a lot of relatives all over the area. she probably lives for the holidays with relatives and watching her tenants come and go to work so they can pay her rent, that's her life

Default i never

paid them late in my 4 years here except for when i was stuck in atlanta when my dad died last december--i tracked them down thru a neighbor and told them when i'd be back to pay. 3 days late, no late fee and she expressed her sympathy--as much as someone with a pit bull temperament can, i guess

i think she's starting to see me as a decent tenant since i did not jump on the revenge bandwagon with some other tenants who claim there was insufficient water pressure and lack of hot water. last week she called me by my nickname--she has never even called me by my name before

Who knows they could surprise you, sell that building and retire.
I hate to say this, the next LL could be worse, yeah, tell me to shut up.
