Doing some quick math, our rentals are mostly from about $.50 a sq.ft. for older units to $.75 for newer and nicer units. The majority of our rentals are between 1000 and 1500 sq.ft.
Larger properties rent for less per square foot here, by far. Some of our largest properties (we have one at 3500 sq.ft. and another over 4200) are as low as $.35 a sq.ft, even though they are new and very nice.
Cost of living is fairly low here compared to what many of you are quoting, but wages are lower too, so it evens out.

Renters of large properties often benefit from economy of scale... twice the square footage isn't twice the price around here...
I don't like managing studios and one bedrooms because of the high turn-overs I experience... someone is always moving...
Some of my 3 bedroom homes have been rented to the same family for 20 years...
I pay $765/month for a one bedroom/one bath cottage which is about 500sqft. No central air (don't need it), ceiling fans in LR/BR/kitchen, gas wall heater, and street parking which is horrible!

Apologies for going a bit OT, but this post gave me food for thought. I will be looking for a rental sometime next year and I figured I would end up with a studio. I guess it would be wise to broaden my search!

Depends on the market I'm sure...
Historically, families tend to stay put because of schools, jobs, etc...
Studio and One Bedrooms are fine for single person and even a couple (if they get along)
One building I managed had lots of 1 bedroom units... I think the average stay was 18 months... the biggest reasons for moving... having a baby, moving in with a boyfriend/girlfriend.
1120sq foot apt (2BD 1 bth), 815/mth (includes heat, water, basic cable,trash/sewer, garage, clubhouse with pool and private party room, exercise room. Only thing additional we pay for is phone, internet and additional cable channels (HD tv) Canton, OH
$1028 a month to include heat and gas for 480 sq ft studio. Also includes an offstreet parking spot. This is in Weehawken right next to NYC.
That is ridiculous!! I could never afford to live in that place. I cant even imagine how tiny that apt is. So sorry you have to pay that much for such a small space

What is ridiculous, that you can't afford that place?
I am going to guess that the demand for apartments near NYC is greater than in Canton. I am glad you are happy in Canton. Others prefer different places with their corresponding prices.
