Been in my apartment now for about 2 and a half months now, and so far so good.
I live in an upstairs end unit, with neighboring units on two sides of me.
Some noise here and there but for most part pretty quiet. At night it's very quiet with hardly any noise at all.
As an upstairs neighbor, I make it a point to tread lightly on my floors. I shuffle my feet and walk lightly, never stomping. I don't know, I've always tried to be considerate like that, you know.
Totally agree. I can block out traffic noise and the sirens that go by often here dont bother me. However, the loud footsteps above make me bonkers.
I dont even mind noises from people beside me. Its just the walking above that is so bothersome. This is my first time with upstairs neighbors. When I move out upon graduation it will (hopefully) be my last.
Oh, yeah. I don't mind a lot of things either, but there is something about that "bam-bam-bam-bam", that is SO annoying and seems to reverberate with each step, finding that it can make my windows rattle. Many do not cause this to happen and it is too bad you couldn't have experienced one of the quiet walkers.

Ahh, the upstairs neighbor that we all want. It just takes being conscious and thoughtful and I have experienced the majority to be so, outside of those who just "blame construction", so they can do whatever they please.

Yep. I grew up in a house by an expressway and heard the traffic whizzing by all the time, never phased me. But when I moved into a first floor apartment and heard those elephants upstairs, drove me NUTS.

Yes, I understand how you are as a neighbor. Before I lived here, I stayed in an upstairs apartment in a three floor building. I walked just as you did because I had sense and realized that a person LIVED right below me. Its being respectful and a decent neighbor.
I must be experiencing bad karma from somewhere to have such dreadful people above me right now.
I have also noticed that the most annoying neighbors never leave. Theyre there when you move in and theyre still there when you move out.

LOL! It's seriously so annoying. In my last place, these people would literally just pace around their house ALL DAY and only go out for like ten minute intervals, maybe once a day. It drove me crazy.
I used to live in Manhattan during college and stayed in high rise dorms. I had upstairs neighbors then but never heard them due to good building construction. I miss those buildings.
These stick built low rise structures suck.
