My husband and I have just sold our house (close the middle of April) and need to rent for about a year. We've found a townhouse that we are looking at tomorrow. I looked at the rental application and it asks for previous rental history. We have owned a home our entire married life. Do we just put the bank information on the application? We have excellent credit (820+) and the same job for the last 20+ years (teachers). Any advice?
Under previous landlords, I'd put "Homeowner since whenever - Mortgage paid to Bank of Mortgages, This Town, USA."
I rented to people like you once in a while, and that's all I'd need to see. Then, when I ran your credit, I'd see that it showed your mortgage to the above with your credit history with them, so your story would be verified.
You won't have any problem. Just put "homeowner" in that slot. Your mortgage will show up on your credit report as all paid on time, which it was in order for your credit score to be so high.
You can give the name and number of the agent who sold your house to act as a reference for condition of the house. Just make it really clear on the application that it is your agent not a property manager.
Agreed. Homeownership is generally viewed as a plus.
