2005 Suzuki Forenza sedan
4 cylinder engine with Automatic transmission
about 160,000 miles in the odometer.

My Innova 3100 OBDII scanner says this:
P0496 - Evaporative Emission System High Purge Flow
Emission System Status: Red

Freeze Frame Data:
Fuel Sys1: CL
Fuel Sys2: NA
Calc Load(%): 22.7
ECT(*F): 212.0
STFT B1(%): 1.6
LTFT B1(%): 7.0
MAP (inHg): 8.0
Eng RPM: 1443
Veh Speed(mph): 37
Spark Adv(*): --0.5
IAT(*F): 80.6
TPS(%): 5.1

Is this something simple to repair? Could it had been bad gasoline (even though I use Shell or Chevron with Techron California midgrade) or a loose gas cap?

I think a p0496 code is a evap high purge flow faulty. It could be many things: gas cap, purge valve, purge canister, probably need to have this one check by the dealer.
SOLVED: Suzuki forenza code is P0496 engine light on - Fixya

start by checking the simple fault ... a loose gas cap.

a broken/open line in the evap emission system or a broken canister could be at fault.

But I'd venture that 99% of the time, it's simply the gas cap loose/not sealing.

Not sure if Suzuki is non-standard on this code, or just terms it different.. but it's normally purge flow during non-purge condition

The purge solenoid is closed, the vent solenoid open, so there shouldn't be a vacuum on the tank. If there is, this code is set.

Generally would mean that the purge solenoid/valve is stuck open, but that's not the only thing.
