the way i see it working people built this country...not ball players or ceos or movie stars and everything that is in the system belongs to the elderly that worked their life away for a pittence of what they were worth.the bible says a man is worth his hire..and someday greedy people will pay for working people for nothing and skimpimg on their benifits when they are no longer able to work.i agree we give plenty to countries that hate us and to foolish projects.remember one thing..money is only paper without workers

I get so tired of hearing people complain about where they tax money goes. Everytime I am reading or hearing something about what is going on with President Obama, It justs makes me sick to my stomach. Why is everyone trying to blame everything on him with this ecomomy. It was already jacked up by bush and all of his no nonsense wrong doing. Then comes along this dark skinned man who is actually blessed to become president. Everything negative that has happened in this country is to be blamed on him. Well if any of you were smart enough to realize he has not been in office long enough to do all of the things he is being held liable for. As far as the tax money goes do you really belive that out of all the programs that the goverment has that only your portion goes to the ederly and disabled. Really! There are so many other things that you need to be complaining about than helping in taking care of the elderly. are you all totally insane? The bible says to help them to help themselves. If you want to challange something and take a stand for it, challange drugs, the effect it has on this country's economy, and the money that is wasted on it every year. I pray for all of you to realize one day that this is God's money and this is God's world. Everything was created by him for him. So I say to all of you GET A BIBLE AND READ, LEARN, LISTEN, AND OBEY THE LAWS OF GOD AND OF THE LAND!!!!!!!!!!!

So if I understand you correctly, it's the government's fault that you live on $1,200 a month. You yourself have absolutely nothing to do with it.

So suppose the "government" decided to pay you an extra $1,200 a month in order to double your income. Where would this money come from? Who would pay it? The money doesn't just grow in trees in some secret government orchard.

Oh, and who is this "everyone" who is getting a raise, according to you? I'm not getting one, and there's no particular reason I should be getting one.

Not so! Many, many working people not only haven't had a raise since 2008 but we have had wage cuts.
My own salary was frozen for 2009, then cut 1.5% in 2010. For 2011, it will be returned to the 2008-09 level.

I feel lucky at that; many people in this area who work for municipal and county governments have been given furlough days, some losing as much as 15% of their salaries. Out of all the working people I know and know about, none have had income increases in the last two years, except for one group: public school teachers.

Also the people I know who are on private and/or government pensions did not receive raises last year nor do will they next year.

fwiw, I live in North Texas, where the economy in general has been healthier than in other areas.

I can tell you that things are just the opposite for public school teachers in California. In many, many school districts, teachers have not only had reductions in staffing because of budget cuts (whereby the brand new ones are simply let go) but on top of that all teachers in many districts have had furlough days imposed on them. Glad things are going so well for your teachers in north Texas, but unfortunately it's not the same everywhere.

Yes, I know. And for the life of me, I don't understand why teachers in this area have rec'd generous raises the past two years.
I'm not dissing 'em; I taught public school for 11 years and I have friends and family who teach. But it's a major head-scratcher as to why they are getting raises in these hard times, especially considering that supply currently far excceds demand - ie, the past two years there were often hundreds of qualified applicants for every teaching vacancy.

I'd rather the money have gone to giving raises to retired teachers, many of whom are widowed and don't receive SS.
I know that the funds come from separate pots but IMO it's all govt money.

But I've hijacked the thread. My point is - why should SS recipients receive raises when hardly anyone else is?

I would like the president and all the law makers to live on my salary from being disabled - My gas and bread, electricity, tv and all other expense went up but my SS check has not be raised in two years. Thanks for the 250.00 but that don't buy food, gas and household bills for the two years you have cut SS checks -- President and law makers couldn't live on my SS check for one day must less a months worth.

The poster may have been referring to the $250 in stimulus money which all Social Security retirement benficiaries received in 2009. True, a similar bonus was voted down for 2010, and I believe also for 2011.

I viewed the 2009 payment as wasteful because it went to everybody whether we needed it or not. It should have been means tested; the Soc. Sec. Administration already has our adjusted gross income on file from our federal tax returns because they use it to determine which of five tiers of Medicare Part B premium we will be charged.
