Default This is an old thread which has been resurrected.

This old thread probably never should have been resurrected. It deals with a bill which was defeated by Congress in 2010. The bill would have provided a stimulus (welfare) payment for Social Security recipients in 2011. But the bill failed, so the point is moot and there is no issue to discuss here anymore. There is a thead here in the Retirement Forum about the COLA for 2012, which was officially announced just a week or so ago. That thread is about a current event, and it would be a good place to discuss COLA issues.

Not sure what you are saying so correct me if I am wrong . . . but it appears that you feel regardless of whether anyone has been a productive citizen in his or her life, they are owed something? If the disabled were at one time productive (i.e. worked) then they do get a subsidy from the government. The elderly were not always elderly; if they worked, they get a subsidy.

Or are you talking about folks who have never done more than have babies paid for my Medicaid, live in subsidized housing, get food stamps and welfare checks every month.

I am wondering when it changed from families taking care of family members (the disabled, the elderly) to the gubment taking care of them. Regardless, it seems you are angry b/c someone hasn't given you enough.
