I like going to the casinos to people watch and get out of the house but I come home sad sometimes. I see the same sad old men and women at the slots every time I go. They do not look happy and seem to be blowing alot of money. Isn't there a better way they can spend their time and money?
whoaaa wait a minute. I am approaching 60 and retirement as is my wife. She is off to the slots Wednesday. She has a $50 max and she and a friend like to go play and have fun on the penny/nickel machines. She may not be smiling but she likes the machines that are fun. Many seniors are not able to go jogging, hiking, biking, surfing and slots may be their form of adventure. Exercise you ever try pulling that lever down for 6 hours? Pushing the button for six?
I'm sorry, I don't get it either....but I guess some think it is fun. I do know that gambling is addictive and there are many, many people that lose their homes, jobs and families because of gambling addictions. It is addictive and potentially dangerous - not for us.
I get it! I have X dollars per month to spend on entertainment. I can have a day at the casino or use those same dollars for something else. Sometimes, I will probably choose to go to the casino.

Many have no control over this. I've seen it happen, and folks become destitute because of gambling at slots. Speaking with some I know are like this, it is the potential thrill of the win, like a drug.
My inlaws have pretty much pissed away there lives at casinos. They own nothing anymore. Retirement plans are spent. House foreclosed, cars repoed. They will pretty much have to work until they die if they can.
She has ruined her own sons credit by not paying a car payment on time that her son bought her.
They ask my wife and I for money and we would not feel right at all with lending them any since we do not gamble ourselves. To us it would be like buying a crack head some crack. It is a strain.
They claim the lights and sounds are very relaxing. It relives stress. I guess thats why they spend most of their free time at the slots.
I think it is a big problem all over. It seems that the casinos prey on the elderly.

Today there is a video news story on Yahoo about gambling threatening the savings of retired Americans - that is right Mohillbillwoman - older Americans are blowing the money they have worked for their whole lives - leaving them destitute. It is a widespread problem - gambling is addictive. Why should we care? Because gambling is a destructive force to our society, many retirees are addicted to gambling to the point that taxpayers will be supporting them in their poverty. We should all care when an addictive behavior threatens the wellbeing of a large segment of our society.
