Am I in denial? Has anyone else felt this way besides me? (diabete, grandma)

IMO, showing cleavage does not define sexuality, especially in older women. In fact, I find it rather distasteful.
It would be a glorious day if all female celebrities who have a need to flaunt their boobs (fake or otherwise) at us would just stop. Leave something to the immagination, much more appealing & sexy.
A woman wearing jeans, boots and a flannel shirt can be very sexy as long as her inner beauty shines through.
I disagree. TO me just seeing a "hint" of it is sexy as long as the "girls" are still in shape! BUT hanging out all over the place would be distasteful!
Hate to say this, but many of the European countries I have been too are MORE obsessed with how women look as are the women themselves; hence you will not see them going out looking like most Americans do. In Belgrade, most of the women dress, on an everyday basis, in what I call "Porn chic"!
Agree. Very rarely did we see a female Italian newscaster, interviewer, reporter, or talk show host who dressed with a modicum of modesty. At the same time, they cried about not being respected for their minds.
Job advertisements in Italy often stated these requirements: "Under 27, beautiful, and well dressed." It used to be under 25; the age went up a bit after many public complaints. When we left the country less than four years ago, the age limit had yet to go up to 30.
Somes, Americanwoman54, how a gal dresses/makeup worn can depend on whether the lady is married or single! Married ladies, at our age anyway, don't have the pressure from their hubbies to look hot. Some single ladies, younger and older, just simply like the attention/looks they get from men (young and old) with the way they dress and their makeup. My wife has never been a "dress to impress men" type. Just like some other ladies her age, she does have cleavage, but just doesn't see the need to show it off. A gal can look good-to-great without wearing "bragging" type clothes. I mean, REALLY, just how many ladies 55+ have a totally stunning body? Same goes for us men in that age bracket. Diane Sawyer is in her mid 60's and looks great with her dress/makeup.......which is very "down-to-earth".
I think you brought up a valid point in regards to those who are single and those who are married. I may feel totally different if I had a man....or not!
How sweet woman??? I think part of my "denial" does lie in the fact that I don't want to lose my sexuality.... so, I am questioning everything.
I've been posting on several threads each day including this one and another current one, "Fashion for Retirees"...and thought your post was on the Fashion thread, not this one, and thus my response. Must be dementia setting in, even though I am still young and beautiful....

OK, I amend the phrase "American Culture" to "Western Culture."
But I think that European men in general sense sexiness in women much beyond their dress, makeup and hair (though they like that, too). When I was in Italy 10 yrs ago visiting my "roots," I was immediately praised by a well dressed middle aged Italian man whose younger wife was within earshot. He had no ulterior motive, as he would never see me again. My friend in the Czech Republic, where there are many truly beautiful women (they seem to grow on trees there ) reports similar instances. So perhaps...men, at least, in other cultures are more age-blind....and BTW, I wasn't in any sexy getup at the time, either.
Americanwoman54, how do you feel when you wear your clothes? Do you feel comfortable? How do people react to you? Do they behave toward you as you wish? If you feel at ease and you get the treatment you want and deserve from co-workers, then more power to you. Keep on!
Of course I still want to look (and feel) sexy at times. I'm glad to be able to pick those times, unlike when I was young and was often hassled when I was minding my own business simply walking down a public sidewalk or jogging on a trail. I'm glad to have the choice of being invisible.
Acacia, not sure if you wanted me to think about those questions or answer them aloud! But my thoughts are overall positive . The only negative is that I may need to step away from sleeveless as I am noticing some not-to-nice things going on with my arms as far as creping skin. I thought I escaped by not having batwings!~
And I LOVE your last paragraph as I feel the same way. May I ask if we are the same age??

Yes, I agree as I think European men (for better or worse) appreciate the woman form more so as art. And what happened to you, happened to me as well, and I think that this may happen partly due to the fact that we DO look different from what they are use to. What do you think?? I know I would be standing at a light or sitting on a park bench, and men would come up and talk to me...usually beginning with: You aren't Serbian, are you??? And I still don't know if that was a compliment or not! BUT they were interested even though I was older than most of them... And yes, they do tend to be more age-blind, as my ex was way younger....
And yes, those damn Czech, Serbian, Croatian etc etc women!!!

Reason: added question
Sorry, ladies, but isn't this conversation becoming a wee bit shallow and drifting away from retirement?
