Does paying off retirement plans just encourage a lack of productivity in the old with "entitlements"?

Hmm! Didn't know that we had to be "productive" when we got old and retired. Thought one of the benefits of retirement was having to produce anything only when we wanted to, or not. Never knew that pensions and Social Security we paid into for many a year were an "entitlement." Ya learn sumpin' new every day! And from a youngster, no less.

I made a batch of biscuits and weeded the front flower bed yesterday.
Isn't that productive?

Well, I think that productive enough. Kinda like I picked tomatoes in the vegetable garden, harvested some Swiss chard which, sauteed with sun-dried tomatoes and fresh garlic then mixed in with fresh pasta and pesto helped me turn out a good dinner last night when accompanied by a grilled pork brisket. That was more than enough "productivity" for one day.

Gee..no one ever told me there were pre-paid retirement plans. I would have bought one when I was 20 and paid it off

Retirement planning is something you start when you are young. It starts out low priority and over the years works its way to the front but it should always be in your financial strategy over the years.

You don't wait until 5-10 years before you retire to start working on it.

But you might if you've lost almost everything, including half your pension funds, in a relatively late-in-life divorce.
