Happy in Wyoming and NewEnglandGirl have raised the excellent point that the name "Retirement Forum" excludes older people who have not yet retired.
I don't see it that way at all. To me, an important element of the Retirement forum is that it serves to provide information to individuals about retirement prior to their retirement, in much the same manner as the geographic forums provide information to those interested in visiting or moving to those areas.
I can see a Senior subforum under the Health and Wellness Forum, where people could go to find information on health issues as they pertain specifically to seniors. But a Senior Forum in addition to a Retirement Forum? No.
Renaming the forum is a better solution, IMHO. Here's what I said in April of 2010 in a previous similar thread:

And that *may* have some appeal to some people. There is, after all, a separate specialty under internal medicine just for the health care and health issues of seniors.
But I see no reason to have a Seniors forum AND a Retirement forum. My first preference would be to leave the Retirement forum as is, and not create an additional forum for seniors; my second preference would be renaming the Retirement forum to include the word "seniors."

A person seeking a Forum on senior issues may have absolutely no idea it would appear under "health and wellness." If I'm looking for info on senior retirement communities, or property tax breaks for seniors, the last place I would ever look would be there.
The only subform related to seniors that would naturally appear in "health and wellness" is "Senior health and wellness." Yes that does have some merit, but what with different Senior forums an awful lot of us are going to spend a long time on CD each day searching out our interests. Fifteen min. a day is enough for me..
I don't know about this. Let's not over think this thing. Personally, I read and post on probably 8 or 10 forums in the city-data forum area. I look for, or find what I am interested in. So, is the slicing and dicing, not to mention pigeon-holing, really necessary?
Just as a matter of truth-in-posting; the retirement forum is my favorite and most participated in, even though I have a couple of years yet to go, before passing over that threshold. I can relate already, gives me pause to think, and helps me to prepare.
Ya know. Maybe we should have a separate forum for seniors; those who meet federal guidelines under the Older Americans Act of 60 or older. Better yet, 62 and above and drawing Social Security. Best of all, 65 or older and receiving Medicare.
But in order to post you first have to have surrendered your driver's license.
The present forum should be renamed Over 60. There could be a subforum named Retirement.
Senior connotes age and infirmity to most people.
