A year or so back this question was debated in the "About the Forum" forum, and just a day or so ago NewEnglandGirl mentioned in passing that there was no Senior Forum, only the Retirement Forum. My own view is that this Retirement Forum doubles just fine as the senior forum, even though some folks post here about retiring at very young ages, such as 45 or 50.
First, it is an open question who should be considered a senior. Businesses such as movie theaters and restaurants give senior discounts at various ages, mostly commonly (but not limited to) ages 60, 62, and 65. The Social Security "full retirement age" was 65 for my mother, is 66 for me and for most of us posting here, and is 67 for the somewhat younger generation.
Second, we can always skip quickly over posts that do not interest us, such as those about retiring very young, or any other posts really, and this is always true in any forum anyway.
So my opinion is that this Retirement Forum is in effect also a "Senior Forum" and that it works just fine that way. I wouldn't welcome having to scan two forums in place of this one which I now scan for retirement and/or senior issues. Other opinions?
Well. If we're voting on whether to have one, I think we should. As you stated, Escort, not all who retire are seniors.
For me, senior means I qualify for those Tuesday discounts at Ross, Denny's (although I don't eat there) and the huge thrift shop, downtown, just to name a few.
I don't know how to put up a poll, so I didn't think of it when I wrote the OP, but that is an excellent idea. Can I add to this thread, or does it have to be done at the beginning?
I'm pretty sure it has to be done when you post the original thread. At the bottom of the screen, it allows you to put a poll along with it. You're a brave one, Escort. Do it!

Well, I just clicked on "Thread tools" and did it. So it doesn't have to be done at the beginning. Thanks for the little push; I am so retarded about computers that I just "assume" I can't do stuff.

That is VERY cool! I don't think I've ever started a thread here. Can you believe it? Over 750 posts and never started one conversation. I was assuming, too so you know what that makes me. For the record, I still think it's a great idea to have a separate thread. At the rate we're all aging, we're going to need one, sooner or later.
This is an excellent idea, but I'd prefer a neutral word. Over 55 (or 60) would be ideal. There are many older people who work who feel that a forum for the retired is not really friendly towards them. That's certainly been the case here where work and job seem frequently to be used in a derogatory sense.
Older people have different medical problems from the young, different investment needs, even different security and self defense needs. It doesn't matter whether they're employed. A current thread on elderly drivers is a perfect example of this. Retirement should be a subforum of Over 55, however, not the other way around.

Escort, thanks for bringing this up. Someone last year had suggested an "All Things Senior" forum that unfortunately didn't go anywhere.
To me, retirement is just one, albeit major, aspect of being a senior. Under one Senior forum, many different threads could spawn. I admit it could be cumbersome now that we have so very many threads under Retirement--it could really get out of hand.
Already folks are creating threads under Retirement that have nothing to do with retirement per se, just subjects concerning the older crowd. In subjects seeming to have little to do with retirement, I myself want to hear the opinions of people close to my age, as certain issues affect older folks much differently than younger folks.
Also, most of my friends who consider themselves "seniors" are not retired and do not plan to retire for some time to come.
So I lean toward "All Things Senior."
