Uugh! A totally wasted, unproductive day yesterday. Or, that's how I saw it last night.

Arrived at the Social Security office just as they opened yesterday at nine, (mistake #1, should have gone earlier). Took 45 minutes just to get my 'ticket'. Was finally called at 12:30 and took all of five minutes to submit my premium appeal form, (premium based on last's years income, (high), instead of current income, (low)).

Then spent most of the afternoon waiting in the lobby of a walk-in clinic to get a prescription refilled. Now that I'm not on Kaiser any longer, I don't have a doctor yet because I'm in the process of moving from SoCal to ID, and elected to wait until I was resettled before finding a doctor.

Upon reflection this morning, it really wasn't a non-productive day because I got two very important things accomplished. Even though they were not what I had planned, (finish packing several rooms). Oh well, I woke up, so there's always today. That's what I'm finding is great about retirement . . . there's always another, new day free of the constraints of a job.

My motto since being retired is "There is always tomorrow."

Another favorite is "I'll think about that tomorrow."

All borrowed from Scarlett O'Hara.

Sometimes I borrow from Rhett Butler, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

It gives me a sense of freedom. Maybe it will help you, too.

Ha! Yep, the only downside is the freedom for procrastination. I AM going to do it today! Nah, I can do it tomorrow or the next day or the day after that.

So we procrastinators have to push ourselves a little more because we don't have the pressure to do things NOW. (spoken as a procrastinator, obviously.) Volosong, I hope today is much better than the nearly wasted time you endured with SS and the clinic.

I sent my son a text with an attached video clip with the subject line Drumming at the Library. To which he texted back "sounds like an oxymoron, but fun."

The library had a drum circle program today for kids which was led by a very dynamic, high-energy drum teacher. He had over 40 djembe drums, hand drums and tambourines set up in a three row circle. As the kids sat down and parents were saying, "don't touch the drums", the teacher smiled and said that is like giving kids ice cream and telling them not to eat it, let them drum!" He knew his audience. He started the kids off slow and it exploded by the end, the kids were so into it. He invited kids to dance in the center of the circle and then their parents to join them as the rest of the kids were drumming on. The synergy was incredible.

One little girl who desperately raised her hand for everything and wasn't picked, finally at the end was picked. He allowed her to feel the power of raising her arms up and down, directing the loudness of the drums. The look on her face as she realized what she was doing and the power she had was awesome to witness.

It was a great hour that produced two really tired grandkids for me, but more importantly I loved these two messages the teacher had, the first for the kids:

"As much fun as it is to bang on a drum, it is even more fun to be with other people and share your energy and yourself with them."

And for the parents:

"The kids won't remember what you bought them, they will remember you dancing with them."

The teacher thanked everyone at the end and said "I have the best job ever." I believe him.

Had a very nice lunch the other day with a member of this forum, brightdoglover, in the small mountain town I am hoping to move back to and she is building a home in. Neat to be able to sit down and talk to another member here.

Absolutely! The other week, I shared a delightful lunch with Escort Rider. Fascinating fellow. I think the restaurant staff was getting a little antsy because we were there several hours just chatting away.

Last year on our road trip from AZ to IL, we had the pleasure of meeting up with two delightful ladies and their special needs children, whom I met online in a closed groups for family members of people with those special needs [we have a Special Needs grandchild]. It was a delight to meet them and they were every bit as nice in person!!!
