I think things are looking up for me with my VA move.
I messaged an apartment complex in Salem (right next to Roanoke) and they got back to me this afternoon. I'm going to apply for it and move in date is September. Perfect!

Small wildfire about 1/4 mile behind me yesterday, they got it out fast. 102 today with hot wind. Found a place in the small mountain town I want to live in. $750 a month for ONE ROOM in a house, only until October. Unbelievable.
Wow, crazy! Are you going to do it? Just hit 105 here. I really hate this weather. Well, except when Monsoon starts. I do enjoy the t-storms.

For one room in a house? I wasn't born this morning, so no.

I believe you are right!
The only thing I won't like? Having to go out of my building to do laundry!! But I won't be going out in ice and snow!!
Cats will be very happy...... there is a balcony with this one (yesterdays did not have a balcony). And they do love their time watching the birds and laying in the sun.

Great news; I've always liked Salem. Nice to have any larger city needs right next door in Roanoke while actually getting a bit of smaller town feel with Salem. If you are so inclined, Roanoke college in Salem ought to have some music and other events for you to attend.

At $750 a month, it must be one helluva great room!
NYgal -- Happy to hear you have another apt lead! I hope everything works out better this time. When you say you would have to go out of the building to do laundry, are you meaning there is not a pay-laundry in the building? Is this a small building? It is kind of unusual not to have laundry equipment, but I sure it does happen.
Jim -- You will find a place, people move and places become available. I have extended family members evacuated in Utah, due to the Dollar Ridge fire. Hopefully the fire can be controlled soon.
It has been quite hot here today; we have our dogs inside due to the temperatures. Also, there was a dust storm warning, but they usually do not come up to our part of the Valley as often. The one today has died out.
Since the dust storm has withered away, I'm pretty sure the community patriotic band concert will be on for 8:00. So we will be heading out for that in less than an hour. The concerts are wonderful, and they are free. The temp is "down" to 103!
