Well, that's good to know - thanks.

Today, I feel so old and tired and useless. I know when I get some rest I will be doing schtick about last night's events, but right now, not so much.

I have had trouble with the alarms since I moved here. All the alarms. smoke alarms. security alarms. Alarms that are not in any way connected to each other.

So I hate calling management about an alarm problem unless it's really bad. Last night was bad.

A new, less than a year old, smoke alarm has been beeping intermittently during the night for awhile. Last night it dinged every few seconds from 3am to 9am. Now it has quit. I called maintenance at 9 and the man told me how to dissemble it. I love my high ceilings but I can't get up there.

Its a holiday weekend. Alarm hasn't peeped since 9. It only does it at night. Is it smelling smoke? I don't care. I hate the beep. I think it gets louder as the night goes on but that could just be my tolerance dwindling.

I mentioned my medication alarm upthread. I think I may have taken an extra pill when I heard the first beep. Okay. its starting to get funny. almost.

I am so tired

newcomputer: That is a horrible situation. I wish I knew how to help you. And sadly I do not have one good idea to offer you.

I hope things get better soon.

Not making a political statement. Just expressing how I am feeling today. Needed to just say it.

I have been feeling anger and despair at the goings-on in Europe with Syrians and others trying desperately to escape their homeland due to war violence. How much more can a human being take? It just baffles the daylights out of me. It seems people are so disconnected from the sufferings of others. Will it have to become a reality for them for people to want to help them?

Only my opinion, no intention to offend anyone, but if there is a God, where is he??

Smoke alarms chirp periodically when the battery is low; it's a signal to change the battery.

Oh, I feel your pain! You're almost asleep just as the beep goes off again.

DH was traveling this week and I lost power for an hour and a half. We have a sump pump in the basement with a battery back up. When it loses power and goes to the battery, it starts peeping. I went down and pushed the reset button and it went off, only to beep a few minutes later. Then the UPS for the computer upstairs started sounding off after a half hour. I unplugged it and went downstairs to unplug the sump pump, but it is hard wired into the battery. I was grateful when the power came back, more to get rid of the noise.

Oh well, it was good for some exercise.

I can relate. When I first moved into my house I was having a problem with smoke detectors too. And the people who lived here before had an ADT alarm system. Have you ever heard one of those go off??? Oh man! When it happens at 3 AM, jarring you out of a sound sleep it's a real bummer. Then I had two small alarms that kept beeping, changed the batteries and then they'd go off. And they are loud too. I took the battery out of the ADT alarm and it STILL beeps now and then. I wish they'd just come take it away.

High ceilings here too. I now have a ladder!

Hope it clears up soon and you get some rest!

thank you all for your support. I have learned so much about smoke detectors today. There is a lot of stuff on the web. We are not alone.

I think I have the mystery solved. The unoccupied bedroom is the coldest. The window is always fogged up in the morning, and this is where the relatively new detector resides. I am going to close the ac vent and the bedroom door tonight and see if that helps.

Also, they need dusting (who knew?) and spiders like to build webs in them.

Because I rent, I have no idea what sort of product I have, but if it is a combination gas and smoke detector, I might be concerned about the gas hot water heater under the house.

If I was still in my own home, that sucker would have been removed with a shovel about 4am. If it wasn't a holiday, maintenance would have come right out, but I have lived here going on eight years without a rent increase so I try not to be a nuisance.

Most irritating is that I used to be very handy
