I have to plead guilty for not leaving an ID when I rep someone. Sometimes I do but mostly not. And I agree that I also like knowing who reps me. So I guess I should 'change my ways'.
I do too, but sometimes it is hard to figure out who the poster is when they use just initials and run them together. I abbreviate my state and fully spell Transplant. I get called MT, which to me looks like "mountain", so I don't want to confuse anyone I give reps to.

I will use AZDB sometimes. I don't think it can be misinterpreted, but you never know. For yours I might think it was Montana!
Thank you, Escort Rider, for explaining the use of the scales to leave a written comment with a rep. I have wondered forever how some writers leave me comments! When browsing, I usually don't sign in, in which case the scale is not displayed.
I learn several new things every day on this site. You all are a great group of friends!
I didn't know what the scales meant. Thanks er, I've been guilty too.
Yes, I was the one who expressed a wish for more people to identify themselves when repping others, but I think "guilty" is an exaggeration. You are not guilty of anything. You didn't happen to know about a certain technical feature of City-Data. No big deal. Now you know about it, and it's great if you want to use it, and certainly O.K. if you don't want to use it.
One interesting thing I learned from my post on the subject and the responses to it is that quite a few people, like you, just didn't know they had some other option. And that is a partial answer to my question as to why so many reps are of the "quick reputation" variety.
I always leave a short comment and my screen name. My problem though is I forget to do it in the first place. I am improving.
Now if I could only figure out the "quote" thing. When I click on the quote box at the bottom of someone's post it does not come up in its own separate box. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Me too. I've never told this to anyone (shhhh) but I can't double quote. It just not work. If I want to do it, I have to copy and paste the other quote.
