It is my understanding that yogurt usually has:
Lactobacillus bulgaricus;
Streptococcus thermophilus;
and possibly Lactobacillus acidophilus.
Streptococcus thermophilus does not survive on it's own in the human gut.
Lactobacillus acidophilus is only added by some manufacturers to comply with Federal regs. it is not always present in home-made yogurt.
Out of a community of dozens of digestive enzymes and bacteria, this leaves only two that you can get from marketed 'probiotic' yogurt to seed your gut.
Only one of these is available in home-made yogurt.
IMHO -
A 'balance' from among dozens is not possible if you are only ingesting two [or one].
Unless you use store yogurt to start your culture.
Yes, then you dealing with strictly 'Lactobacillus bulgaricus' and nothing else.
Why use yogurt to get only one or two strains of just Lactobacteria (small intestines) when you can have 10 total strains that includes Lactobacteria and Bifodobacteria (for both the small and large intestines) in 30-100 billion CFUs from a single pill?

I can see the logic in that; so long as the pill costs less than 3 cents
I had never heard of probiotics. I'm the world's worst eater or at least I think I am.
Forced to eat all the good stuff until I was about 8 or 9 and now I have a psychological fear, I guess. I've tried different things.
This might be something for me to try - pills only though. If it worked for me, it would work for everyone.
