From Triciajeane - "However, look at Florida/this has been a WEIRD year"
You are so right - not only weird but we have really had winter for the last 6-7 weeks. Our "winters" here do get cold snaps - for a couple/three days max. But we have had endless days of cold (I know, I know but it is relative). And just grey, cloudy, rain, rain, rain. You really feel that you are hibernating. And to think I was considering the Oregon coast? Though Cannon Beach is still my favorite place on earth (at least to date). As tired as we Floridians are of our "winter," I think being slammed with snowmegedon is really getting to our neighbors up north. We will all be glad when Spring has sprung!
You can say that again!!!! We just got dumped on again - only 7 in. so it's not as bad as the east. More is coming. My 2 lane driveway is now a one lane - a very narrow one lane. Yes - let's do the spring dance Today is bright and sunny and that helps. I'd never survive constant gloom.

I'm too tired to dance anything from all the digging! There are 4' drifts out there and it is still snowing! The wind with this storm is brutal! And it is cold! 19F.
This too will pass ...
DC passed their all time snow for a winter record set in 1899.
Must be punishment for all those mild winters we have been having.

But it just isn't quite so bad~~~~when you don't have to go out in it! Welcome to the retirement world I heard those stats tonight on the news - that is really unbelievable! They showed pics of it too. Very strange weather this year.

Except I'm almost out of coffee! That's incentive to dig. It is beautiful but we get little melting because it stays so cold.
Must be like MN. But we aren't prepared for it. When it does melt, we will probably get floods. DC broke their 1899 winter snow record at. 55". I've gotten 81" at my house!
Hi all, checking in from Philly after Round 462 of the snow. It was brutal, but the good news is that the sun is shining today so it's melting, and wasn't too hard to push it with a broom or shovel. The bad news is, another ****ing storm might be coming our way Mon. The 24/7 news coverage and "snowtographs" of people's kids in snowsuits is really getting to me....and a lot of others.
Sorry to hear the weather in FL hasn't been great either....I had a month of lousy weather there and figured it would be gorgeous once I left....sounds like that's not the case, so I don't feel so bad for coming back to Alaska, I mean, PA.
I think the prices are on the higher side too. There are tons of older houses for sale in the Old Town area, from roughly $150,000 up.
I wanted to be more rural, but with a close by community, so I decided to try getting an ecovillage going. I need a couple more people to help organize it.
Have you thought about Loveland? A bit lower in cost, lots of retirees and close to FC. I'd be willing to help where I could but in today's market , it may be a real challenge - like a bang your head against a wall challenge + lots of $$. (BTW _ I somehow missed this post before)
What a winter it has been, very bizarre, I think! We have had a more normal one in terms of snow amounts, a good thing. I got here in Wisc. Fall 2007 and winter was brutal. Being from NE Illinois, I was used to snow but a few times I thought what was I thinking???
This year we've had a few snowfalls but manageable. I can't believe the pictures I've seen from the east coast, totally crazy and I know everyone is definitely thinking spring! I'll change my snow one to I'm thinking Spring, about time!
Hope all is well with everyone, and that 2010 is a great year for those making a move or settling in to a new area!
Yes, the winter has been the pits. Spring will be even more appreciated than usual 2010 should be an interesting year
