For those of you (and me) who don't especially care for the terms "senior" or "elderly", I respectfully propose the following terms:

Wise Woman

and

Wise Man

What do you think? The terms are a nod to all our accumulated wisdom.

Of course, there are youngsters and teenagers, maybe we should be Wise-Agers or Wisesters.

What accumulated wisdom? A bright teenager has more wisdom than most old people, most middle aged, and most other teenagers. Aging doesn't raise IQ; aging doesn't make up for a lack of education or lack of interest in intellectual pursuits; aging doesn't make up for a life centered around the lowest forms of entertainment. Aging means nothing but aging. The fact that an individual is closer to death is no indication of virtue. The fact that many old people are hideous in appearance doesn't buy them respect.

There are people who have led productive lives and people who haven't. Age has nothing to do with it.

People who wish to be respected and aren't should have thought about it fifty years ago. I'll stand on what my life has been. I don't need another euphemism. And I'll never feign respect for those who only deserve to be despised. People earn respect whether they're twenty or eighty.

Wise Woman is a little too "new agey" for me. I could handle being called a Wisenheimer, though.

I actually like senior. It denotes the highest grade--and that's me, top grade and prime!

Enjoying both points of view! It's a good way to "gather wisdom"--lol.

Why can't we just cut the BSing if we are so damned wise and say, "old."

I believe we've had this discussion here before. I'm still a proponent of the term, "Seasoned Citizen."

Of course, I'm also personally comfortable with "Dinosaur," "Old Fart" and "Geezer."

"Geezer" sounds kind of affectionate, yes? Think I'll change my name to GeezerGirl..I like the alliteration.

...and Seasoned Citizen certainly has merit...many of my cohorts are spicy, peppery, and salty..and a few are very sweet.

Yet if we were more tribal we'd all be known as "Elders."

Has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

Yep, I've always liked that term, Elder...other groups highly regard their Village/Tribal Elders...here, not so much...until it's time to babysit the grandkids or grandpets
