"While some people see retirement as a time to sleep in, play golf or tackle projects around the house, not everyone wants to -- or can -- stop working when they've hit retirement age."
Great information I am sure that many of us who frequent this forum have not put together a resume in a very long time. We are probably out of practice in interviewing.
I see more and more of this hiring people who need no benfits from already having them. With the average cost of 13K contribtuion to health insurance I see it as increasing as time goes on.I know quite a few who have gone back on contract at higher rates of pay parttime for same company they worked for.I know a friend and wife who both have done this to better retire fulltime in future since the cost of college is now done. hey say in the last five years they have increased their wealth by more than the previous twenty years from this income flow.
Do I really need a resume to get a part time job at Home Depot? Anything more demanding than that in retirement and I'm not interested.
You are going to compete against me when I retire? I hope for the two years between my mandatory retirement age 60 (4 years) and my wife's elective retirement at 62 (6 years) that I can land a job at Lowes or Homedepot so I can get employee discounts to get my house in shape for sale.
Pretty much the 'business-as-usual, Basic Job Hunting 101' list - not much new for 'anyone' seeking a job, much less retirees. IMO, if one finds themselves forced to 'un-retire,' they should use their age/wisdom, skills and contacts to locate/make personal connections who will 'fit them into a spot,' ... rather than trying to compete on equal ground with an enormous pool of non-post-retirement age applicants today for advertised jobs.
--- Ask some of the many long-term, highly educated/skilled unemployed folks out there today if the same old "me too" approach (smile nice, salute the flag and eat apple pie twice a day) works in today's job market. (Sometimes, I think many of these "how to" column/article-writers simply 'fill their assigned space with the obvious' ...because they lack the real world experience, to offer practical insightful advice that actually works).
