When I lived in Germany in my 40's, my friends and I went once a month for a great time but I always was disgusted by some of the out of shape (mostly) older folks that were always there... I mean really, some of them were ardently flaunting themselves even though they (in my opinion) looked ghastly...If seasoned humans were covered in fur I suppose it would be OK, but BALD..!...YIKES...! The human body is a beautiful thing in youth but then time sets in and....well...knowwhatI'msayin....Do any retirees on this forum still go to these nature camps and do you have any informative experiences and/or urbane comments for discussion ...
We have a spot we like in the Caribbean where nudity is accepted. There are plenty of couples 20-30 years older than we are, but when I see them, I don't notice the sagging and wrinkles, I rejoice in the fact that they are walking the beach holding hands, and obviously still find each other attractive.
I never saw flaunting in the older crowds, just freedom .
I would like to be a nudist but I won't go to a nude beach or a nudist camp because of people like the OP. I am still young and in shape, and that is the very reason I won't go. There are unfortunately voyeuristic infiltrators who go to gawk at young hotties, and that would defeat the purpose for me.
I would want to be there to embrace nature and feel free. The idiot gawkers judging everyone's body would make me feel self conscious. I don't want to be looked at and studied. I get that out in the real world; I'd want to go to a nudist colony to escape that sort of objectification. I agree with the poster who commented that it appears the OP is looking for more of a strip club experience, not a naturist experience.
You haven't been, and I have, so I will offer my opinion. At a nudist camp, as opposed to a nude beach, people are screened. I never did see anyone "gawking". My ex-wife, who really didn't want to go, found that it took her about 10 minutes to feel totally comfortable, much to her own surprise.
Isn't the OP worried more about his own aging body? The way I read it, he is seeking reassurance that he will be O.K. at a nudist camp. I can reassure both of you that you will be O.K. if you go.
As far as people's deepest, innermost reasons for going to a nudist camp, we will never be able to know them for sure. Your purist requirements are pure to the max, but if someone is appreciating the beauty of the female body, you will never know it because you will not be able to discern it. With dozens of nude people around of all ages and body types (skinny, medium, and on the fat side), it just doesn't take long at all for it all to become routine instead of special.
I don't know of any culture that is so hung-up about nudity as American culture. I find it ridiculous, including your hang-ups about "objectification".
Back in the 1970's my ex-wife and I belonged to a nudist camp in southern California. I was somewhat surprised that a number of quite over-weight people had conquered their self-consciousness and were there. Not a real pretty sight, but having to do more with weight and less with age. I haven't been to one since about 1980, but my body doesn't look very much different now than it did then. (And no, I don't think I'll be posting any comparison pictures in my City-Data profile, so don't even ask for them!)
Lucky you if your body hasn't changed much since 1980. Thirty three years ago I thought I had a nice body Now as an overweight old man I wouldn't force an uncovered view of that on anyone.
Sheeeesh....! Another shrink....I can't waste my time reposting #9 young fella....
You're objecting to the responses you're getting but you're the one that posted this
" I always was disgusted by some of the out of shape (mostly) older folks that were always there.."
Shrinks help ferret out thoughts and feelings and motives....no need when it's blantantly and plainly offered.
I wish that there were a place that recreated Victorian picnics as well as luncheons, teas, and formal dinners. Menus would reflect the times. Dress would reflect the particular period and there would be lectures on both men's and women's fashion; there would be lectures on other elevated topics as well. Decorous conduct would be the absolute requirement but pleasant and refined games as well as other activities would be most welcome.
The most benighted savage can easily revel in public nakedness; but people above that level should strive for enlightenment, not savagery.
Here's something for thought. There was a men's fashion accessory in late Victorian and Edwardian times that held a table napkin to a gentleman's collar. Rather startling, is it not?
OP I don't think that people who go to these places are gong to see young naked people. They go as a way of life. You need to go to a stripper bar it sounds like.}
Are you the forum shrink? I have been invited to a nature camp next week so the premise of the thread is to gather general impressions from mature experienced nudists and their thoughts about mingling with some people who have spent a lifetime neglecting their physique...NOT to see young naked people! I asked for any interesting personal experiences and courteous comments from retirees who are into the nudist lifestyle and posting here.... NOT any inimical and callow comments and conclusions from a person who has never experienced a nature camp.....
If you wanted courteous comments perhaps you should not have referred to the naked oldsters as "ghastly".

You're off base. Nudity does not equate to savagery. The guards in the Nazi death camps were well dressed. And the subject of this thread is not having our entire society revert to nudity as a default mode of dress, but rather the subject of nudist camps where those who do not wish to be there are in fact excluded by impediments such as high fences and intake interviews.

I have never been to a nudist camp but would like to go sometime. I cannot imagine voluntarily going to spend time in a place that you find others who are not up to your perfect physical specifications and enjoying yourself. It appears you have an aversion to the naked human form unless it is perfect and acceptable for you to look at which from what I understand is the exact opposite of what the nudist camp is all about.
I hope you never get old, really, I would hate to see you forced to describe yourself as "ghastly", that would be just awful.
Ewwwwwwwwwww, please there comes a time when the human body is an assault on the eyes, and it is like looking at a baboons butt. NOT pretty. Let's stop with the delusional, "the human body is beautiful." It is functional. But once it has blossomed, it is downhill fugly all the way down.Just keeping it real.
I just dry heaved thinking about two fatties coming towards me with their bits flapping around. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. What an assault on the senses.
Quick, thinking of a beautiful orchid or mountain with purple haze around it, my wonderful dogs, oommmmmmm-ommmmmmmmmm now that is beautiful

Am I now supposed to shiver and shake and renounce and condemn what I said because I'm being equated with Nazis? I find public nakedness offensive as well as being a mark of social decay. I won't prohibit what these people are doing out of my sight but I do prohibit their having any association with me. Or do you believe I must accept and embrace them while at the same time showing only contempt for my own values and traditions?
