I have two male friends in their 80s who enjoy nudist camps/events. It's not my "thing," but, apparently, they enjoy it.

I am an old [sixties] nudist. A few years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. I joined a breast cancer support group. Most women were uncomfortable with their new bodies, while I was hanging out at the club only 2 days post surgery wearing nothing but a smile [ and those nasty tubes and bags] If I were not a nudist I imagine it would be more difficult

Hmmm, I am stunned by your post. I have never been to a nudist colony but I always thought part of the nudist life style was being comfortable in your body. Which the folks who disgust you probably were. Your post makes me wonder if you were truly a practicing nudist or just a gawker?

When I was around 45, I went to a nudist camp in S. Calif. with a friend of mine b/c her son was going there to set up for a band that he was part of. Have to say that I felt pretty uncomfortable. Some people were totally nude, while others were partially nude. I think most of the people were definitely older than me and, IMO, not nearly as attractive as they probably were when they were younger.

One thing I found out very quickly........nudist camps are NOT for me!

I'm not a prude so I don't have any problems with nudity. Being a practical person, I think early human beings invented clothing for many good reasons: to keep warm, to protect from insect bites, poison ivies, sun burn, for sanitary reasons, for adornment etc.

I did not know nudist's etiquet of carrying a towel to sit on! I have half a dozen pairs of reading glasses and keep losing them (just lost another pair in this trip). I'm also a mosquitoes' magnet - too sweet of a person ?;-).

I don't think that I'd ever join a nudist camp.

That would seem to be a totally horrible bummer of a vacation. To go to a Nudist colony and to lose or break your glasses if they were for more than just reading. I wonder do they allow reflecting sun glasses so no one can see where you are looking? They are wonderful at the beach unless my wife is sitting to close

I understand the nudist resorts in upstate New York do not do much business during the winter months.

There are so many things I could say. Hopefully MathJak will jump in as he has less limited boundaries.

Oh no! What I meant was that with my habit of losing items which I don't use all the time, there would be a very good chance that I'd loose my 'sitting towel' in a nudist colony and would be forced to be on my feet all the time.

So if for whatever reason that I have to stay in a nudist camp, I'd probably wear my towel all the time so that I don't loose it. It would look quite uncool to other campers. On the other, it is also uncool to gawk at others so they may not even notice. However, the insect bite issue is still an issue besides the cold NY weather so no nudist camp for me.

Yeah, that's a troll. I suspect there are way many more gawkers at non-nude pools and beaches than at clothing optional sites.

I'm glad this thread was bumped, I could have sworn I had posted in it but guess not.

I've always been a wannabe nudist. Clothed or naked, I'm neither proud nor ashamed of how my body appears to others nor do I care how other's bodies look.
For me it's about how good it feels to be nude, it just feels right and natural. In other houses and at other times, when alone at home I used to close the blinds and strip, then go about my day. I loved how liberated it made me feel. Unfortunately the living area of our current home is almost entirely glass.

DH doesn't share my joy of nudity so I've never seriously considered going to a resort. However he's loosening up since he retired and maybe he'll indulge me.

If not, this thread has inspired me and I've discovered there's a spa in Santa Fe that has a woman's clothing optional tub and area. (I'll only do a co-ed place if DH goes with me.) Since we spend several weeks a year in SF, I have something to look forward to!
