Had my first one about 3yrs ago, thought I'd never get thru drinking that stuff, think it was 2 large qt. size bottles. Next time I'll add the crystal lite.

I'm slipping past my 5-year colonoscopy. I'll get to it one of these days.

My husband had his first colonoscopy when he turned 60. It showed up a BENIGN growth that couldn't be removed via the procedure so he had to have a colon resection to remove the BENIGN growth. It went terribly wrong, he was allergic to the blood thinner, he bled internally and needed to be reopened 2 more times. Altogether, 3 surgeries in 22 days and no solid food in all that time not to mention infection. He's due again this year for a follow-up colonoscopy but he thinks it'll be his last. There's a lot to be said for 'if it's not broke don't fix it'. In hindsight, he'd have lived with the BENIGN growth.

Tip for first timers.
Before drinking that swill get a chip clip out of the drawer and clamp it on your nose. If you can't smell that crap you can't taste it and it goes down a lot easier.

My Doc had me prep with Senna tablets...Took 4 tablets (8.6mg per tablet) three times a day for 2 days along with lots of water and fasting...They cost $4 for 100 tabs at WalMart or Family Dollar....They did the job...

I find it helps to face colonoscopies with humor. Every time I read Dave Barry's column (from 2008) on the subject, I laugh out loud -- and get serious about scheduling the next colonoscopy:

Hey Robyn- I woke up thinking about you (yes I have a face assigned to you).

We should all toast to Robyn's success: OK - bottoms up!

I had one at 55. Not pleasant because they thought they punctured my colon.
Doctor actually came back from home to check, but luckily It was only
a twisted colon excruciating gas pain. In a horse it would be colic.
Yes I would get another!

I am scheduled for my 3rd colonoscopy later this month. Last was 5 yrs ago, 1st was 3 yrs before that. Both times polyps were removed. 1st time prep was Fleet phospho soda + water. Yuck, but it worked. 2nd time was MiraLax + 2 qts of Gatorade. Tasted fine. Doing MiraLax+Gatorade again this time.

Apparently Fleet is no longer recommended due to concerns re kidney problems.

I distinctly remember the doctor saying prep and clear liquids only - decided that Vodka was a clear liquid Like all things as we get older, you learn to accept those things that help you maintain your life/health and then get on with living.

I had one at 50 that was clean. In theory, I should have one every 5 years since my father had polyps removed but not tested because of his age at the time. I'll probably get one at age 60. My wife hasn't gotten one yet. About the time she planned to do it, she went in for day surgery for another problem. She's put it off 3 times now for this. Planning on having one this fall, so we'll see what other problem interrupts it then.
