A friend retired early 2013. Huge plans to travel, going somewhere every month.
The nest was empty and they are looking forward to fun.
THEN one of the chicks returns. It seems Sam was diagnosed
with severe depression controlled by meds.
Sam decides I don't need this damn drug so off it he goes.
Spiral down into severe depression.
All plans made by my friend are put on hold (forever?)
Doctor has warned Sam he cannot go off meds ever. But
SAm knows best.
Is this caregiving or enabling. I would like to help my friend but don't know how.
I have seen this exact scenario go on for many decades with other people.
When do you apply tough love and go on with your life or can you?
Do you spend your retirement years in this manner?

If others are willing to tackle this they are free to do so (not that anybody needs my permission but there is a forum for mental health issues, as well as another one for caregiving. Both garner more readership among those experienced in or interested in those subjects.....which are not age or retirement exclusives....far from it.
Unless you get lots of replies here, you might try one of those forums.
