actually i don't let the camera do anything much to our photo's . everything is shot as flat and boring in camera as i can . in fact looking at it you would say it is almost washed out and to bright .
i just try to get as much clean signal as i can without blowing things out . that gives me free reign without noise later on when i decide on how i want to finish baking the shot .
at best straight out of camera usually is a half baked product . so i prefer to let the camera not add any of its built in processing the factory builds in .
we took a trip to clinton nj a few weeks ago to photograph the old red mill .
i am dying to go back in the snow .
Really dying to go back in the snow? What on earth for? Leave that four letter word out of it. Yikes!!!! I bought a snow thrower in hopes we never get snow. It worked twice before. Maybe it will again.
I have cameras and always have one with me(smart phone), but I hardly ever take pictures unless its something I am specifically interested in. Long ago I concluded that everything has been photographed and is already posted on the internet.

Very funny, lol. I just bought a smartphone partly for the purpose of always having a camera on me. This one has a good camera, unlike most of the smartphones I looked at. I'm always seeing things I want to take pictures of.
The next town over from me has lots of gorgeous old mansions built by 19th C sea captains. One house in particular ALWAYS has a pretty decoration on the front door. I drive by it all the time but as soon as I get this new phone camera up and running I'm going to get a picture of that house and its creatively adorned front door.
as photographers we find not only endless amounts of stuff never photographed but even the stuff that was is not the same .
that is what makes the difference between your work being an artistic creation reflecting you vs just another snap shot . even the lighting from hour to hour and day to day can make for a totally different shot .
i never and i mean never shoot the scene and call it a day as it is . every shot that i keep looks the way i want it to in my head , not the boring scene i saw when i was on location unless the natural lighting was spectacular . .
there are thousands of shots of the old red mill above . that mill is on more Christmas cards then you can count .
but none look like mine .
if anyone wants to browse our gallery i will be happy to send you a link .
there is rarely a day we are not out looking for things to shoot that we can add our own look to .
in fact marilyn and i are very competive , or should i say i am against her , she couldn't care less most of the time being competitive with me .
but that is what i find fun and motivating . the fact that each time we go out i try to out do her . ( most of the time she wins ha ha ha )

Mathjak those are amazing phots especially of the cathedral. I have been to Montreal but didnt go to that church. It now makes me want to make that trip sometime. We have been contemplating that train ride up the Hudson to Montreal from GC NY. Maybe I can talk the wife into that sometime soon. Not an expensive trip mind you. Just one that is totally relaxing.
