I really love being retired and not being answerable to anyone (except my wife, of course) about what I do and how I spend my time.

I love the fact that we planned well enough that we have the means to be able to afford the things we need along with reasonable things we want (presuming the gubmint doesn't ruin it).
It's nice to not have to account for our time to anyone.

If we want to sleep-in or not at all, eat healthy or not so much, exercise or be totally lazy, we can do it and nobody's going to fire us. It's none of anyone else's business.

What I dislike are some of the aches and pains of aging. I'm not fond of the uncertainty of what's happening to my country. But the good news is that I'll likely reach my expiration date before it all goes to hell in a hand basket!

I feel the same as the OP, except for the wife part, don't have one of those things. I only have aches and pains after I spend a day splitting firewood. Other than that, I'm good.

My wife is 30 years younger which makes it a "bit more palatable"!

Sincerely glad you think so. It wouldn't for me but then again, it doesn't have to. My wife is just that; my wife, not bragging rights!

Likes: No five-days-per-week daily grind month after month (I was getting a little burned out). More time for reading. Time to engage in gratifying volunteer activities during "work" hours.

Dislikes: Receding hairline. Beard almost completely white. Less stamina.

One of the things I like is not having to get up at 4:30 in the morning.

One dislike is my memory is not nearly as sharp as it was.

Not getting up early. I am definitely not a morning person.

Being able to be at home during the day to enjoy the house, to cook or garden or do what I want instead of only being at home at the end of the day when I am tired.

Not having to worry about pleasing a supervisor or co-workers.

Being able to stay in when the weather is horrible or dangerous.

A lot more time to pursue my interests and hobbies.

Dislikes:

Uncertainty about the future. The opposite of being trapped.

Worry about very old age and what will happen.

I knew I forgot something. I still seem to have great long-term memory but short term, not so much anymore. It can really be annoying.
