I guess it's a sign of getting old, but maybe I'm turning into a Scrooge. Most of us have heard the same Christmas music for many years. The other day, its started again, before Thanksgiving. Personally, I think Christmas eve is enough. Now I get sick of hearing the same songs over and over for a whole month. Anyone else?
Me too. When I had my store I never wanted to play the Christmas music but my employees always told me that it was necessary to get everyone in the right spirit. I used to listen to the songs over and over again until I thought I would scream. One day I shut off the music and everyone in the store clapped!

It started today at my store. I don't mind too much because after a little while I don't even hear it anymore. I'm so busy with customers, and doing my job, it's just more background noise. Kinda like living next to the train tracks...after a while you just don't hear it anymore. I like Christmas music and we only have to listen to it for one month out of the year so I guess we should be able to deal with it. I get more tired of listening to the same ol' "Top 40" stuff over and over and over on the radio...
I enjoy it. But I don't really listen to music during my daily routine so if I don't hear Jingle Bells while shopping at TJMaxx or Target I would miss the whole Christmas music thing. Though I have to say I prefer the traditional carols like O Little Town of Bethlehem, or, Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

It's not just at Christmas time. Stores generally have lousy music all year round. Whoever pipes in the music to these places has incredibly poor musical taste. I don't have a problem listening to Christmas music, as long as its the traditional versions. I even love classical music versions, with choruses, organs, and orchestras. But I can't stand the altered versions. For instance, I'm not interested in hearing some R&B singer belt out an unrecognizable version of the Christmas classics. Just don't want to ruin the spirit of the season by hearing some pop artist give a lousy rendition of an old classic.
It's one of the reasons why I prefer to shop online and avoid the stores. It's now at the point where I will only shop at a store at Christmas time if it plays only classical music.

I dunno. When I see the video of a middle-aged Bing Crosby and and oh-so-much-younger David Bowie singing Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth ..... I can't help but get a huge grin on my face (But some of my friends run screaming from the room)
Part of my gripe with Christmas music is that I have a very selective taste in music. I like what I like, and if I don't like it, I don't want to hear any music. Most of the time I have no music or talk on the radio in the car. Quiet is underrated and most music overrated. Maybe that's another thread? Popular songs that we hate from the past. Like my all time worst, "American Pie"
