I watched most of (dozed off for last thirty minutes of course) of One More Day last night. In this T.V. show it showed what I am looking for. The character is seen walking through town and then walking to a house/home.
A town center with quaint, older homes miles around it. I could walk up to say 3 miles! It had quiet, nice, peaceful surroundings. Older neighborhood. A place where if I did not want to use my car that day, I could walk.
It sounds like what you’re looking for is like that TV show Mayberry RFD from years ago. A small quiet town, with older well kept homes, very little traffic maybe a lake on the edge of the town for fishing with a small rowboat. Sorry I’ve not found a town like that, but it’s a good one to be looking for.

That is exactly what I would want. Funny though after thinking about this yesterday, I realized something. I used to live in a modern great neighborhood but did not realize it at the time. I think now how I could have walked to 3 banks, gone to Publix for shopping, blockbusters, music store, fast food, haircut, etc. At the time, I was furious that a mall was built across the street. I had children and did not want our front lot to be dangerous. So I realize that if I find a decent town, just look for the neighborhood say 3 blocks from these things.
So I was feeling a little bit down that I had the perfect neighborhood for us back then. Then opened up my email and someone from where I used to live - Pembroke Pines sent me a list of police incidences in that area that occured over a few days. Unbelievable. Mind you, no assaults or anything but personal theft everywhere. Someone even tried to break into the funeral home through a window.
Guess it is true what all the relocation books say. There is NO perfect place.
What is near perfect today can change in time.
There are many such towns in the Midwest and Northeast. However, your dream should have included how you can afford a small town with no job, or maybe a coda to the dream could show you where you can earn a living.

I'd love to find a town like this too! The few small towns I've come in contact with that seemed perect were clouded with the snobbish and clannish attitudes of the residents. I sure hope they aren't all like that!
