I'm somewhat like the old dog we are currently caring for. She walks slow and needs to rest a spell during during our walks, and I'm happy to comply. From that perspective our best days are behind us.
So I'll be 66 this year. I finally decided to retire.
My dilemma: I love what I do but I don't know how many clock cycles I have left. No data in my family because the previous generation all smoked. That created early departures; my dad died at 49. I could continue to work but I don't want to die on the job.
I plan to do some travelling after I retire. I'd like to do that while we're both still well.
It seems ironic that the people who want to retire can't afford it but the ones who can afford to retire like to continue to work.
Perhaps they'll let me work part time as a contractor after I retire.
I hope I still have some very good days ahead of me.
Vision, my bil did that & it was perfect for him. He worked as a consultant to his old company & it kept him busy yet free as he was able to dictate when he worked. Yes, folks like him & you do tend to be able to live very well. Rats that my sister saw him first lol.
Sitting in Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood (summer home of the Boston Symphony) yesterday on a gorgeous day listening to the "artists of tomorrow" on stage, my companion, who is about my age, turned to me and said it doesn't get much better than this. I thought she meant the music, which was superb but not professional, so I hesitated in responding and then walking the amazing estate I felt what she meant. We were free, unconstrained by work worries, not having to be at work the next morning, and just in the present. We were both limping from foot injuries, and we laughed about being old ladies as we looked off into the mountains. My best days are now.
Seems like my life is really just starting. Finally retiring,Moving to Central America and getting married after never being married. Sounds like the greatest adventure of my life.
